Green light!

I had some help with the walls and the priming. Got a lot accomplished for the month of November and gas being below $2.00! Like the paneling? I do! It makes the room look... classy!! I have two walls left to do. I really need a laser leveler (360)! Putting the paneling is very hard on the other walls. I am going for conformity people!

Here are the pics:

Trix are for kids

Hi Kids....

Let me start out with this - I hate picking out paint colors.

First things first.... This weekend we took the mirror down!

Why do (ghetto) people love putting mirrors on walls? Does it serve a purpose other making a room look bigger? In this case, not even close. The room didn't look bigger, it looked pathetic. The grey spots on the wall are... glue. If you look close enough, you can see a smile or a sad face. I see a sad face where the room cried for many years because of the former owners slamming a mirror on the wall.

Let's continue my story of pain. This is the 3rd or 4th time I had to repaint the stupid dining room. The blood orange just didn't work out at all! Instead of painting it red, a coworker suggested a "calm" green.

When we first started out with the green, we went for a very calm green. The only problem with this is that it turned out to look a bit mustardy when I first put it on. It really looked like baby puke. Pics of putting the baby puke calm green:

Round 2 of another color! I had to go and get it retinted it because the paint turned out to be yellow on my walls before noon! It changes color! I HATE IT!

The new green (apple green). The good thing about this green is that it doesn't change color before noon! It stays green and looks really, really good. I am decent now! I got fed up with remixing paint that I started over and asked the guy at Lowes to make a new color for me.

I like it!

Red Red Wine

So this weekend I've decided to tackle the dining room. From what the neighbors tell me, the previous owner/douchebag made the room into a media room. Let me give you a tour of the crappy room:

You can tell what "type" of people who had previously occupied the home. Gold trim?! The ceiling color is okay but it reminds me of colon cancer. The red I kind of agreed with but at night, it was really, really dark where the room was actually violet. Oh, oh! The mirror... WTF? Why do people like mirrors?! I hate them!

I understand that they make the room bigger but should the mirror be bigger than one side of the wall?! SUCH CRAP! Plus, when you walk into the room, you may spook yourself to death like I have on a few occasions.

So what have I done to the room?

PAINT IT WHITE!

That was two gallons of white. After I finished it.... the room was hella bigger!! So it sat white for a month. Now I am back to fix it up and mark it off my list!

My goal is to make the room look like a mix of these rooms:

So here's my progress:

So... let's talk about the color.
On the can, the red looks good. On the wall... it looks horrible. I was on call that evening I decided to paint. So while doing my thang on the laptop, I was trying to figure out what color this turned out to be. Then it came to me: - blood orange!

Hell yeah that's the color! Guess what, it's a whole different color than what's in the paint can! Man, I really don't like this color.

After doing some research, I figured out what I did wrong. Now let me tell you this. I'm a big fan of HGTV and everything I learned came from HGTV but the one thing it didn't show me was how to paint a wall red! Well guess what I did wrong:

So the wall is primed white right? Well guess what.... it should be primed GREY!!

Well tomorrow, I am going to stop on by the local Lowes and find grey primer and then repaint the whole room again and attempt to finish this beast!

Now I did something else while the paint dried:

What I was trying to do was to add raise paneling. I hate beaded wainscoating and I am really attached to raised panels like so

In the picture above, they did a tall rectangle. i've decided to do a flat rectangle. When I was almost done, I noticed that somehow I measured/divided the columns wrong!! I am like 4 inches short! I was majorly pissed off. Now I have to redo the whole thing again! That is pathetic. I have to remove 6 slats AND paint the stupid wall grey. Hell... there is always another weekend. I'll get this room done and when Kyle is home, he can help me remove the stupid mirror!

Oh here's an added bonus:

One of my other houses got broken into and now I have to go and buy a $200 door and install it myself! WHAT A LOAD OF CRAP! If they had locked the back door storm door, none of this would happen. Potty watter!
