Post Labor day blog

Where to start...?

Friday:
This is where my dilemma starts. The other week I cleaned out the explorer and I discovered a gift certificate ($200) to a furniture store here in Memphis. My realtor gave it to me after I bought the Clark House. Now what company gives a gift certificate with an expiration date?!
That is some pure horse-poopy.

When I first walked into the store, I was greeted by a nice sales clerk. I'm the type of person who just looks around the store see anything that interest me and just purchase it. I do ask for directions when I'm lost (waste more and more gas) but when I'm shopping, I really don't need any assistance.

Anyways, we walked around and I notice the price tags. I was getting depressed in my mind each time I traveled further within the store. Let's make make an analogy

college:bookstore::home:_______

A) Furniture store
B) Mortgage
C) Bank
D) Pony

The best answer is A- furniture store. Do you know why? Because they rip you off! I remembered in college buying a packet of paper (Fyou International Management Information Systems) that cost well over $50 while I could've paid someone $5 to borrow the packet, spend another $6 on copying it. FU....

Anyways, I did some research online on their website and found the perfect thing that is in my price range:

Damn look at that bed! I've always love a sleigh bed. It would look sooo nice in my bedroom! The price...on sale for $299.00 - hell yeah! I would just have to shell out $99.00 for it! Another bonus- free shipping. This can't even get any better!

So I rush out to the car to get the gift certificate. When I look at it, I noticed it was for another store!!! I WAS BUMMED THE F- OUT! I head back into the store, told the guy I had the wrong store. Now here's where sales people shouldn't push their luck - asking me to spend $299.00 on a bed I know should be retailed at $150.00.

I got in the car, made a phone call to locate the other furniture store. Luckily, it was about 3 miles back down the road. I was really pissed off and upset that I could've got a really nice bed.
I had some optimism that I might land a deal here. I, of course, was dead wrong.

I was greeted like the last place, like fresh bait. My 'consultant' was HOT! OMG, she was outrageously hot. I would scale her a Ole Miss 9.0. What she wore was concealing yet left you a lot to imagine yet alone she wore tight brown pants that you could some extra bonus footage material. FREAKING HOT!

Anyways, I looked around the store with her and saw just over priced furniture crap! Like who the hell would pay $100 for 2 Pillows, yet alone $50 for 1 pillow - rich folks... rich folks that have way too much money (please donate to restoring clark place).

I inquired about sleigh beds, HOPING to find the right one like the last store. To my surprise, NONE OF THEM WERE THE RIGHT ONE! You know why? CAUSE IT WAS TOO F'ing EXPENSIVE! Even though the store was having a 40% off sale on everything, the beds were ridiculously priced. The 'low' end of the bed were these wrought iron bed:

(That is so shitty that this is not on their website)

Now here comes the price....... $500 for a queen.

WTF?!

I was seriously contemplating on just giving the girl $200 bucks for like a lap-dance, feeling up her shirt, or a BJ. It was 4:00 by now and I had some errands to run so I decided to think about it tomorrow, shop around, and finally make my purchase.

What I did for the rest of the afternoon was helped Courtney on trying to figure out why her griddle didn't work on her monster stove:

I found out that the valve that mixes air and natural gas wasn't correctly mixing the mixture along with dust/ash/crap in the tube causing a clog. One day... I'm going to install mine into the house (2012).

Saturday:
I was a bit lazy in getting up in the morning. Is it me or is it that people love their room to be freezing cold and all snugged in a blanket? Hell, I do. I think that's why I overslept that day (11AM). Anyways, pops called me down to see if I wanted to drive out to Pickwick Lake to pick up the boat.

Long story short, some guy sold us a boat claiming that it was in good condition. After a few runs, it was discovered that the starboard engine was bad. The guy who sold it to us wanted to pay for $500 of the damages out of the $1,500. Yeah right, get a clue. Take back the boat and give us our money back.

The boat was working. The thrill of being on the water separated by a body of fiberglass. The wind in my hair, and my camera taking pics of the lake and the hotties that inhabited other boats (so many to count).

We did a few waves on the lake and then the port engine started to quit and fail. We got back to the docks and the mechanics looked at the engine. They said that port engine is acting like the starboard. Weeks ago, this bitch was working! So now.. it will cost pops and I about 1k to get it working again. So I spent my day thinking about if the mechanics f-ed with the engine. It's becoming like the Clark House - money out of my pocket.

So I wasted Saturday partially at the lake. I went to work in the evening and that was it. I didn't even get enough time to do some research on shopping for furniture at the new store.

Lazy Sunday:
The title says it all. I got up early this time around - 11AM (went to bed at 5 AM). I had to install a security light at one of my rental homes but more importantly, I have to use this gift card before the day is over! I took the sis with me since I have no idea what I am buying. I decided to shop at the same furniture store but located on Poplar. This time, I got an old lady. She was really nice but understandable that I just wanted to get this over with and move on with my life.

So I went and took the tour around the building and again everything was overly-priced. Man, I really wished I had that GC for the other store. After looking through a lot of furniture, I decided to go with this:

Yeah, looks fancy. Guess what? For an additional $68, they would ship it to my house and assemble it for me. Guess what else - "HELL NO". I will drive down to the warehouse, pick it up and assemble it whenever I feel like it (2010). The lady actually told me that most of their discounted prices are at the warehouse.

Now let's think about this...... the old bat could've said that most of their discounted crap is at "so and so" place instead of holding me hostage for 2 hours. WUTEVA. GAWD. So I got a bed that I can't put together since the house is disarrayed.

I am thinking that I show up at the warehouse, return the bed and buy something else at a discounted price.

After that, I went to Lowes and returned a lot of crap. Then i bought security lights for house #1. This inspired me to buy security lights for the Clark House. The reason is I come home at 4AM in the morning and it is still a bit.. scary to be outside trying to unlock the gate, jump back in the car, drive into the driveway, then lock the gate. Yeah, I rather have spot lights all over the perimeter to keep the ghetto people out. It's been rumored that ghetto people hate bright WHITE lights (vampires).

I installed a simple 110 degree light and it took forever (like 3 hours because i have to tear down a wall panel to install some wire). Then when I finished installing the damn thing, it didn't work! You wanna guess why it didn't work? Because some dumbass didn't read the instructions. I posted the light around 13 ft straight from the ground! Well the instruction manual said to post it somewhere between 8-12 ft! SUCKS! Time to buy a big ass canister light and attract all the months in the neighborhood.

No work was done to Clark Place. What a productive weekend I've had.

Monday
Labor Day. The day to get crap done. I woke up at 9ish. I gave Kyle a ride to work then went back to the house, hitched up the trailer and headed to Lowes. Lowes is starting to print out $10 off 50$ coupon each time I make a purchase, no matter how small. So what I did was returned everything back and started buying items that were in $50 batches. So far, I've saved $40. I think I had lost 5 lbs after all that walking.

Then I passed by Surplus Warehouse and they were open!!!! I had the trailer with me! That means - I could buy crown moulding!!! Why am I excited? Well they sell it in 16ft sticks even though they are able to chop off certain lengths. I wanted the whole 16ft because of the pain of glueing and piecing parts together. I just wanted to cut 2 pieces ofboth 11 and 12ft sticks of crown and stick them up on the wall. MISSION ACCOMPLISHED! Total spent... $74 dollars on qtr rounds, ceiling crown, and chair rail. I did the math.. it would've cost me well over $300 if I purchased it from Home Depot or Lowes.

I dropped off the goods back at the Clark House then met up with pops. Kyle arrived back from work (4PM) and we all traveled to house #1 to put up the new canister security light. It took me an hour but then we talked with the tenants. That took a while but I got to know them a little bit better. By then, it was getting dark and I couldn't do any work to the house.

So to sum this up: I didn't do shit to the Clark House. Maybe next week. Who knows, who cares. If I calculate my expenses.. I spent well over 800. Damn you bed; I hope i get laid in it 300 times.
